mustard turkey burgers with fresh avocado
pound pasture raised ground turkey
1 tablespoon organic Dijon mustard (or other fav' mustard)
1 teaspoon coarse Pink Himalayan Salt or alternately, Celtic Sea Salt
(AVOID COMMON TABLE SALT!!!!)
Extra-virgin organic olive oil, for drizzling
4 buns grilled (see notes on bread below)
1 organic avocado, sliced
1/4 cup organic minced red onion
4-5 Peppadew (or fav') peppers, sliced
1 cup organic baby arugula (though I more like baby spinach)
1/4 cup grass fed grated Parmesan or fav' cheese
(I TOTALLY AVOID COMMERCIAL CHEESE!!!)
Whole Foods always has a few grass fed cheeses, SPEND THE EXTRA MONEY!!!
Directions
In a bowl, combine turkey, Dijon, onion, and Himalayan Salt. Form mixture into four patties and chill 30 minutes. Drizzle patties with oil and grill over medium-high heat, use food thermometer to insure internal temperatire is above 170. Serve on buns with avocado, Peppadews, arugula, and Parmesan.
Optional Trick: I learned (I forgot where) a good trick to making kids or anyone bite into a burger and love it, is to dice up a little sweet apple and add it to to the ground turkey. It will catch them off guard with this slightly sweet flavor that the brain and taste buds won't initially process what it is, normally I get this "mmmmmmm, what's in here?" response…..give it a try!!!!.
P.S. ….. I love Avocado, plus it is a very healthy plant!!!
The quest for the perfect bread:
I haven't found the ultimate bread for me, even at Whole Foods, and other health food stores, that addresses all issues such as gluten, grains, healthy oils, and most importantly, taste. The closest I have run across are products from a company called Sami's bakery (they steam up and soften up nicely). However, they do not ship to where I live 🙁 Their breads are delicious, and great ingredients, such as their millet and flax bread containing: Organic Millet Flour, Brown Rice Flour, Water, Aluminum Free Baking Powder, Sea Salt, Organic Grounded Flax Seed, Cultured Brown Rice Flour, Ascorbic acid.
In the end, bread is an occasional thing for me, and I have other tricks like papaya enzymes to digest gluten, but I realize eventually I am going to have to make my own bread, I've already got a pizza and bread oven planned for my Tropical outdoor dream kitchen, in the mean time other bloggers I follow are getting started with creating their own breads, so I am waiting for something to be perfected by them, so I can use their recipes. I know everyone doesn't take the details as seriously as I do, and that's cool, were are at different points in our journey to optimum health, but I like to take control of the ingredients that are in my food. Allows for a longer life to enjoy this stuff.
UPDATE 9/21/2014 – I looked into the "Babs R" comment below on Pamela's Bread Mix (sold on Amazon), and that looks VERY promising to me, I like the ingredient profile of the bread mix, which is basically, Sorghum Flour, Tapioca Flour, Sweet Rice Flour, Brown Rice Flour, Organic Natural Evaporated Cane Sugar, Chicory Root, White Rice Flour, Millet Flour, Honey and Molasses; Rice Bran, Sea Salt, Xanthan Gum, Yeast Packet. (not so crazy about the cane sugar, but I take in almost Zero sugar, so I can concede the point) I'm gonna give it a try, thanks "Babs R"!!!

I happen to know this recipe came from "Whole Living" magazine because I own the issue that this recipe was in. Just wondering if you normally give credit for the recipes you post.
Using a recipe is not akin to breaking the law. Nonetheless this recipe was when I first started blogging. When you look at my later recipes, you will see me note “recipe and food photography courtesy of……” or “recipe inspired by….”, or I will give a plug to the recipe author in the article itself such as “I ran across this great recipe at the bla-bla blogspot”. Also, there have been many people who have copied my recipes, and I considered it an honor, and it is not necessary if they credit me or not…………all that being said I did add a credit to Whole Living magazine for this post
Have you ever tried Ezekiel bread? Love their buns & bread! Gluten free & sprouted is the best I can find also.
Fawn, my issue with Ezekiel bread it it contains soy, and I’m not a big fan of soy. Saying this with a chuckle, if you thumb through the book of Ezekiel in the Bible wiich they name this bread after, they don’t mention soy, so why did they put it in this bread? I have eaten Ezekiel occasionally, but because of the soy, I can’t consume it everyday. However I’m not trying to judge it too harshly, none of the breads out there have the right combo of ingredients for me…..my search continues. Thanks for commenting 🙂
Regarding bread, check out http://www.ourhappyacres.com/recipe-index/breads/. He's been making all of his bread for the last three years.
Thanks Lynda……Will definitely check it out, this quest for a decent bread is harder that I thought. I suppose the solution is to run across someone else who had the same problem and solved it. Much thanks for the info!!!!
Tasty, gluten-free bread is very difficult to find and usually a bit hard with little flavor. I have a bread maker and make terrific, easy bread with Pamela's Bread Mix (not the pancake/baking mix, but specifically Bread). I have found nothing else close. I use coconut oil instead of oil suggested in the recipe. It slices easily and doesn't crumble like other gluten free breads. You don't have to have a bread maker to bake the recipe on the package. These burgers sound great, so I'm looking forward to enjoying this combo.
Thanks for this comment Babs R, I wanna try it right away, because I’m somewhat desparate for a decent tasting GF bread. An no doubt coconut oil is the way to go. I use it in everything!!!
