I'm not a super big coffee drinker, on most days at work I drink my Maca Coffee, which is much better than java to me.
I do still love regular coffee on some days however, especially on those "lazy Sundays" where the world slows down, and I actually have an hour or two to live in the moment. Something about that aroma.
Whatever my breakfast drink of choice is for a given day, I find that adding my favorite herbs, spices, and liquid extracts to that cup of "hot stuff", it gives me an amazing "vibration", a very smooth energy burst, a pleasantly eerie and very subtle great feeling.
….I have no idea if Monsanto is involved with Canola, just a blatant "cheap shot" at Monsanto for trying to kill us all
It cracks me up when someone post a healthy recipe and one of the ingredients is like, add "half cup" of Canola Oil.
That would be analogous to me posting a recipe for say, a lemon braised chicken with sauteed mushrooms and one of my ingredients is "sprinkle with rat poison".
…….and from my POV, I'm not exactly exaggerating. I didn't write the following text, but it says all that needs to be said very quickly and cleanly, so no need to re-invent the wheel in talking about one of worst food products to be introduced to mankind in of all time. (more…)
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________I'm not one prone to get wrapped up into "urban legends", "old wives tales", "nutritional scams", and all the rest, too much meticulous "research-ability" (if that's a word) in my nature, and I know in my heart and instincts that the Guyabano plant is truly a miracle healer.
It kills me when I continue to read volumes upon volumes, including extensive overseas medical research and studies, that have proven there are countless natural solutions to cancer, many of which have been used for millinea.
Wanted to post this article about the Guyabano, a.k.a.. Soursop fruit, the "Cancer Killer". (more…)
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________When people ask me of the main things that wreak havoc on people's health I normally say Genetically modified foods, high fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners containing aspartame and other poisons, but the 4th that folks don't seem to be as aware of, is the oils we consume.
You'll be amazed at the countless number of presumably healthy recipes I run across on healthy eating blogs, that use some of the worst oils, oils that really are not fit to be considered edible by humans.
The good news is we don't have to be afraid of oils, or think by default they will make us fat. I am a living witness to that because I use quality oils (coconut and olive oils) liberally and have not gained and inch in the waist, and have perfect cholesterol scores!!!!!! (more…)
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________When I got hooked up to papaya, I swear I almost thought about becoming a modern day Dr. George Washington Carver, doing with papaya what Carver did for the peanut, that is, create hundreds products and uses from one plant.
The papaya, and all that is can do, seems almost a never ending list, I'm totally immersed in this miracle fruit. I just wanted to touch upon a very important benefit of papaya, in that studies mainly in the Far East show that papaya, when consistently consumed with green tea, dramatically reduce the risk of prostate cancer (and assumedly other forms of cancer, since a scientific theory has recently taking root that all forms of cancer are the same thing, it just attacks a different part of the body). ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________Nature’s Dynamic Duos: Honey and Cinnamon (amazing wellness and healing properties when combined!!!)
All over this blog, I speak of this mysterious "vibration" that I get when eating powerful whole foods, plants, and herbs. I REALLY get that so called vibration whenever I eat, or use on my skin, real raw honey combined with Ceylon Cinnamon.
I thought I uncovered something akin to the Secrets of the Pyramids. What and herbalist I have become!!! Should I guard this secret under lock and key, to bottle and sell it at my discretion? Is this the fast path to my beachfront Caribbean crib and 84 foot yacht?
Well Doug (me writing to myself), check yourself, ain't nothing new under the sun!!! The health and healing properties of honey and cinnamon have been known via Ayurvedic and ancient Chinese healing for thousands of years. Oh well, back to Plan A, making my cash the "E.F. Hutton way", but those anticipated tropical days will be full of Honey and Cinnamon for health and well being…….
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________Wrapping up the "Eating the Rainbow" series, having looked at The Reds, The Yellows, The Oranges and The Purples, let's "bring it on home", in a big splash, with the "The Greens".
Whether there is any truth or not to the current drama that 5 Hour Energy is linked to over a dozen deaths, in the end, the whole concept of taking a product like this is, as least for me, a waste of time and money.
I kinda have this “seething” issue with, when something affects part of our our lives, i.e. lack of sleep, bad skin, sexual dysfunction, or whatever, some TV commercial pops up, shows you the solution, you pay them, pop the pill, and life is all good again. Bada Boom, Bada Bing, Pay me and I'll set you free……sigh.
….okay let me move on. I have to work so hard not spending all my time “Raging against the Machine”. It takes me out of my “Zen”. Bottom line, when I was having my what I call, “Two O’clock Blues”, my afternoon drowsiness at work many years back, I learned some simple eating habit changes, observation, and tweaking, totally and completely nixed that issue. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A great link I wanted to share called www.eatwild.com.
The site allows you to find healthy, natural and nutritious grass-fed beef, lamb, goats, bison, poultry, eggs, pork, dairy and other wild edibles in your area.
The site has a wealth of additional on the health benefits of grass and pasture raised meats and poultry.
Us "city-folks" and the power of our dollars can help keep these "real farmers" thriving and keep real food available, and stop Cargill and Monsanto from controlling our eating habits, choices, and health.
….this kid is begging us to check out www.eatwild.com, a very thorough and and informative site.

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________Update 5/24/16: Bernando LaPallo passes away in Dec 2015 at age 114 read more
"Eat properly and get your rest," recommends Bernando LaPallo. Words to live by considering the Mesa resident was born in Brazil in 1901 and has lived to be 110 years old. "They had no automobiles, no airplanes I saw them all come about," remembered LaPallo.
LaPallo claims he's never been sick a day in his life. He walks every morning and eats mostly organic fruits and veggies. "People ask me what do you do to stay so young," LaPallo explained. "I say, 'Well you've heard the old saying, you are what you eat.'" So what's LaPallo's secret? (more…)
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________I don't really have a pony in the race of the vegetarians vs. the Paleo style meat eaters. Whatever keeps me cancer free will work for me. I did thoroughly read and enjoy the book "The China Study", which has a very convincing theory that cancer was correlated to increased animal protein intake. However, there was one big question left unanswered, which I proceeded to go out and answer for myself.
Why have there been some tribes and cultures, namely the Native American "Inuit", Inuit being the correct word, and the word they call themselves, as well as Navajo and others, who were [supposedly] cancer free before contact with Europeans in spite of, the high intake of animal protein in their diet? ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________Sea Buckthorn is no doubt one of the most underrated unknown superfoods that even many health food junkies don't know about, but well worth checking out!!!
Sea Buckthorn, the quick, Nutrition Science, bla-bla-bla…….
Sea Buckthorn (botanical name Hippophae rhamnoides) originated in China, Siberian Russia, and Mongolia. Though now, it is cultivated in many places around the Globe, though it favors northern climates like Canada, Europe, and Northern USA.
Sea buckthorn oil contains powerful phytonutrients, anti-inflammatory properties and even exhibits anti-cancerous elements, and has been historically praised for its nutrient dense, anti-aging qualities.
I admit, I am somewhat obsessed with finding foods that help give youthful appearance and vitality as we progress through the years.
I figure I can milk this "40-something athletic" flow for another 30 years if I play it right.
Actually, I'm over forty something, but I don't have the heart to tell co workers and such, often in their early and mid forties, that I am older than they are, when they think I'm younger or the same age.
As long as I keep finding foods like Sea Buckthorn, I can keep the "age scam" going.
Known as the “Holy Fruit of the Himalayas,” sea buckthorn has been cherished by native Tibetans, Siberians, and other areas of Asia for centuries for its incredible health and healing qualities.
I'm always fond of those plants, fruits, and veggies that grow in those frigid Siberian type climates, because they develop into rugged, nutrient dense, hearty plants.
So the legend goes, in the 12th Century BC, the ancient Greeks in Eastern Turkey turned their horses out to die after a battle. They were shocked when the horses came back days later rejuvenated with shining coats. The miracle was traced to the sea buckthorn plant.
Modern science continues to confirm what the ancients knew about this incredible plant. You're on the web, there is a wealth of reliable information on the incredible properties of this plant. Nonetheless, I will list a few tidbits below…………………
Sea Buckthorn Power……
-Its one of the only natural sources for the rare Omega-7 fatty acid, which has been found to aid weight loss, help prevent type 2 diabetes, and improve the look and feel of skin
-It’s impact on skin health has led it to be used as an effective treatment for burns and dermatitis, and it’s anti-aging power will transform your skin
-No fewer than 3 different clinical studies found sea buckthorn was able to aid in weight loss or prevention of weight gain from a high fat diet
-It contains over 190 different nutrients, including every vitamin known to man
-Besides this, it’s been shown to enhance immunity, lower cholesterol and boost heart and vascular health, plus much more..
-You're already on the web, so you can pull up much info on sea buckthorn.
I am purchasing my Sea Buckthorn….
from a company I rave about on this blog called Genesis Today. I love their products, Goji, Acai, Mangosteen, and Sea Buckthorn, because they use the 100% total fruit bottled in glass including seed oils, juice, pulp, skin or inner rinds as opposed to just fruit juice, thus giving a more balanced and well rounded nutritional profile of the fruit, closer to the way nature intended it, not like many scammers who take advantage of a product becoming popular, and mixing a little of the nutrient with cheaper fruit juices.
Genesis Today is not an inexpensive product, but the benefits of products like this are well worth the money to me. I've never been sick a day in my life beyond a bad cold after a half century in this crazy toxic world!!!! (knock on wood). I have no affiliation with Genesis Today, just trying to help those getting started with wellness to steer away from cheap and bogus products and get the higher quality ones.
As I will start to do with all the products I recommend, to help people determine how to find a quality product, below is a list of pointers to help find a quality sea buckthorn product (if you want to try something other than Genesis Today) such as Sea Buckthorn capsules.
3 Things To Look For When Buying Sea Buckthorn
1. You want both berry and seed oil. The exciting research on this plant has found incredible benefits from both the seeds and the berries. But some things the seeds have been found to do, the berries haven’t – and vice versa.
2. You want 1000MG of pure Sea Buckthorn per serving. If the label doesn’t say how much actual sea buckthorn is in the product it’s a sure bet there’s barely a trace amount there. If a company doesn’t even show the label on the website – run the other way.
3. If Taking capsules, a good option for daily intake, You want a 30 to 60 day supply. Seldom will there results and sense of better well being in less than 30 days. You want to take 1,000 MG twice a day. Most manufacturers will break 1,000 MG into two 500MG softgels so that it’s easier to swallow. This means anything less than 120 softgels is NOT a full 30 day supply. My opinion is that 90 days is a better trial period.
4 Things To Stay Away From When Buying Sea Buckthorn
1. Stay away from juices and blends. Juices have very little actual Sea Buckthorn in them. And any product claiming a “proprietary blend” is masking the fact that it, too, has very little to offer. Check the label for “other ingredients” and if you find any, this is not the product you want. (Genesis Today Sea Buckthorn, my favorite, is not technically a juice, but more like the entire Sea Buckthorn Plant put in a blender, containing all of the seed oils, pulp, beat, skin, the entire berry)
2. Products that sell only seed oil or only berry oil. As we said above, the science shows incredible benefits from each – and both have properties the other doesn’t. To get the full benefit of Sea Buckthorn, get oil from both the seeds and berries.
3. If taking Sea Buckthorn in capsules (a good option to get the nutrients everyday), stay away from companies that manipulate the dosage to make it seem like you have more than you do. Some big name companies will sell 120 capsules, but only include 250 MG of Sea Buckthorn in each. Unfortunately, you really have to pay attention.
4. Be careful with Sea Buckthorn powders imported from China, as they are vulnerable to containing lead and other contaminants.
They call me Mr. Smooth[ie]
As I have said a gazillion times, to take advantage of these amazing superfoods now popping up un the USA ……
……YOU GOTTA GET INTO DAILY SMOOTHIES!!!!
This superfood is perfect for my milkshake tasting daily smoothies, because its is easily assimilated into smoothies, and will make a great Nutrient/Vitamin "booster", especially in winter months.
Remember, "Doubt is their Greatest Weapon"…..
…..as one author recently titled his book on how the Pharmaceutical Industry, Modern Medicine, and the Processed Food Industry will do ANYTHING in their power to convince us that these miracles of nature are a hoax or a scam.
Big Business is actually paying people to spread confusion on the web as these new Superfoods try to take root in the lucrative USA market to compete with their manufactured and processed foods and laboratory made medicines.
They are even coming after me and my blog now…..sigh

I simply LOVE my new homemade workout Electrolyte Water, incredible taste, give me that great "vibration", replenishes the body, I should bottle this stuff and sell it.
However, I doubt if that ever happens, I ain't in this for the money, just to spread the word about health and wellness. Of course, if someone wanted to write me a million dollar check, we can talk about it!!
I would suggest however that anyone and everyone considers making their own, and saying goodbye to Gatorade, Powerade and the others with their toxic artificial sweeteners, and cheap ingredients. (more…)

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
As with the other articles in my "Project" series, "The Stevia Project" and "The Chocolate Project", I "deep dive" into investigating a subject matter important to me as it relates to foods I consume daily.
I don't eat a whole heck of a lot of canned foods, but I do purchase a lot of canned salmon, very nice for salmon salads and such when I don't have fresh available, so I wanted to address this issue of toxic can linings.
We've all heard of it, bisphenol-A, or BPA, a chemical substance that lines most food and drink cans. One can easily do so ones own web research on the issues and concerns with this chemical, It has been linked in some studies to a higher risk of cancer, heart disease, diabetes and obesity, and health officials in the United States have come under increasing pressure to regulate it. Some researchers, though, counter that its reputation as a health threat to people is exaggerated. Uh…they can argue back and forth all they want, but I'm avoiding it like the Plague….too much evidence for we to trust a paid off FDA. Fortunately, I found there are a decent amount on BPA-Free canned goods out there. (more…)
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________Don't lump Wild Caught Alaskan Salmon into the general perception that all fish are high in mercury , or you will miss out on a one of the most nutritious foods available.
This subject matter is important in that Wild Caught Alaskan Salmon is such an important superfood that supplies omega-3 fats . Volumes of evidence exist that issues with cancer, diabetes, and other diseases stem from not enough omega-3 fats relative to omega-6 fats in the so called "Western Diet".
Quality Wild Caught Alaskan Salmon is also one of the more practical sources of Vitamin D. Vitamin D deficiency is linked to cancer and many other diseases, especially among African Americans, who consistently register low Vitamin D scores, since we can't get it from the sun as readily, due to darker skin. (more…)
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________I had both Chia and Salba (the "top of the line" Chia) on my superfood list for a couple of years, but as with so many superfoods I research, I can only bring in so many, only those that I can consistently eat every day.
I just brought Chia into my "dream team" daily nutrition lineup recently, though unplanned, after perfecting my recipe for flax wraps, or pitas, or whatever we call our homemade tortillas these days.
I read a few things about flax affecting estrogen levels, my research was inconclusive, but I felt it best temporarily scrap the flax wraps. I read that you can substitute Chia for any recipe containing flax.
I include my recipe for Cinnamon Honey Chia Pitas (sounds cooler than Chia wraps) at the bottom of post (more…)
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________Moving on from "The Reds" and "The Purples", here's a look at the "The Yellows".
…..and I've got awesome cholesterol blood test scores to be very comfortable with my convictions.
Coconut oil is an EXTREMELY healthy oil, in spite of how big business has successfully convinced the masses over the past 40 years that it is not.
A special shout out to the Canola Oil industry, who has successfully fooled the masses by promoting Canola, one of the worst possible foods introduced to mankind as a healthy omega-3 oil. Sigh… (more…)
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________See, this is the reason I blog.
I must admit, agave syrup had even me fooled for four years. Not that I am all knowing and all seeing, but I do but a lot of personal work and research into everything I put into my mouth.
This one slipped past me until I kept hearing more and more about how agave syrup and agave nectar, those guys that we are seeing more and more of in the ingredient list of our favorite products, in not a natural product, and it is actually worse than high fructose corn syrup. (more…)
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________Sigh…..does it ever end. When big business realizes people are trying to do better and make better choices, they start taking advantage. I just read that there is a whole international network of fake olive oil producers, up to 70% of olive oil if I read correctly.
My main concern is that I take in olive oil every day, and I like to make sure those things I take in daily are high quality. The article which I will link to, says that some olive oil is mixed with canola. For me, that is scary!!!!! Canola is one of the worst things you can put into your body. (more…)
