I know I’m taking a big risk by investing three months of my life to create my version of a Prince song, only to possibly have it deleted off YouTube…
…but this couldn’t be a true so-called “Soundtrack of my Life”, with out a few Prince songs, and “Take Me With You” would absolutely have to come out of me first, before any Prince song.
I was probably Prince’s #1 fan back during the “Purple Rain” days as well as before, to the point where some people back in college jokingly called me “Prince”.
But at the same time, to claim myself the #1 Prince fan, is somewhat, if not a lot, hypocritical…
…as my interest in Prince fell off to next to nothing after the “Prince and the Revolution” days.
For example, I couldn’t name one song from his “New Power Generation” days, also, though everyone loved “Adore”, I had not played/heard it until literally yesterday, my shameful testimony can go on and on…
But it digress…..
..maybe it worked out for me, because I hadn’t yet “Found my Frequency”, the term I’ve been wearing out lately, as pertains to finding my true musical wavelength within my soul, until perhaps 3 years ago.
Now, with my own finely tuned ear that’s true to me and me only, I can hear the genius in all Prince’s multi-dozens of CDs/Albums after the Revolution days, and I’m like a kid in a “Musical Candy Store”.
(…that “Diamonds and Pearls” CD is a “monster”. That’s an amazing piece of work….)
Speaking of “Genius”…..
….I actually didn’t know Prince was a “Genius” back when I was a fan.
I just saw him as a talented musician, who dressed funny, and brought a whole new dimension to the mundane, methodical R&B sound of the late 70’s and early 80’s.
I didn’t know, though it’s all subjective and opinion…
…that Prince was for sure one of the top 10 guitarist of all time, and possible top 5 guitarist of all time.
….rivaling the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Eddie Van Halen, Carlos Santana, Ernie Isley of the Isley Brothers, and all the other guitar greats.
And those judgments and ratings seem to be more from his music industry peers than from music fans.
So far as “Take Me With U”, 34 years later, it’s still my “lead off man”, go-to song, when driving with the top down (or more often, with windows down) with a pretty girl.
I got to blast it on 4 different “top down” dates up here in “The Great Northwest”…..
… in my infamous “Drive to the Pacific Coast Dates” up here in Oregon and Washington in my
Mini-Cooper Convertible ZipCar, to have a picnic on a cliff, watching the crashing waves.
(Special shout out to Karen, wherever you are, we had so much fun on the Oregon Coast that day, although my voice “cracked” when she put her arm around me and forced me to sing it in the car!! 🙂 ).
..and “Take Me With U” will still be my “go-to” first song to play for my “Picking up a hottie from the airport in the Caribbean, and whisking her off to my Beachfront Crib in my power yacht” days to come.
Anyhoo, here’s my version in the second video below, the organic result of how my inner
frequency/vibration/wavelength expresses this personal favorite and classic…..ENJOY!!!!
Because, there was only one Prince…..
……and there will never be another!!!
