I guess when you have a net worth of $151 Billion like Jeff Bezos, and a trillion dollar company…
….the company being Amazon, you can create whatever "Garden Graffiti" you want.
But, if you're not an Amazon employee, you're going to have to work hard to get inside this masterpiece of modern architecture.
……because, if you're not an Amazon employee, you can't just walk in to "The Spheres" in Seattle.
And it's a bigger "bummer" for me, the "Hip Hop" horticulturalist, a.k.a., "Botanical Big Dog"….
…… a bummer, because I live about 3 blocks away, and can't just walk in anytime 🙁
Public Tours are only every other Saturday, and by appointment only (as the young kids say on Twitter, "SMH").
Nonetheless, it was and is a fascinating piece of Modern architecture to walk past every day, as I've watched the structure go up from a block long patch of dirt and crabgrass.
But Damn!!! Hate to get so emotional about it all, but "The Spheres" was my gonna be my new "Cool Guy" spot on Sunday Mornings, for my Sunday Brunch and/or Coffee dates. ("SMH" again 🙁 )
But that's OK, when I get my $151 Billion, I'll make my own "Spheres", have it open to the public 24/7, and go whenever I want.
But in the mean time, my readers will have to trust that Doug ata GAIA Health Blog will "do what he do", which is post the best and coolest photos of whatever he posts….
So, here we go!!!
Amazon recently opened The Spheres, the company’s newest buildings at its Seattle HQ.
Amazon’s Spheres, a botanical gardenlike workspace for the retail giant’s employees, are primarily a private space.
The distinct workplace offers no enclosed offices, conference spaces, or desks, though employees can meet in treehouses suspended under more than 40-foot trees or in sitting areas.
The environment has walking paths alongside cascading waterfalls and more than 40,000 plants, making it more like a tropical rainforest in the clouds than an office.
The largest Sphere is more than 90 feet tall and 130 feet in diameter. All three Spheres share a single indoor environment.
The exterior façade features a naturally occurring shape in nature called a “Catalan,” which is derived from the face of a pentagonal hexecontahedron Catalan solid.
The Spheres’ façade contains 2,643 panes of glass that are ultra-clear and energy-efficient.
Free public visiting hours on two Saturdays a month. A reservation is required for the unguided visit.
(…a small ground level area is open to the public daily, but you cant get inside the main space, or even see the botanicals, come if you must, but I think you might find that experience anti-climactic 🙁 ).
