The “All Organic” Tropical Resort: Kittitian Hill, St. Kitts, West Indies

Kittitian Hill is is a milestone luxury resort set on the island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean West Indies. It is accompanied by the 400 acre Belle Mont Farm.

At the heart of Kittitian hills lies a holistic philosophy of sustainable development, that influences every decision, every detail.

"Traditionally, the physical environment is considered the centerpiece of sustainable development."

"We believe the physical environment is only one of four elements of sustainable development",  says Valmiki Kempadoo, founder of Kittitian Hill resort.

I must say, in perhaps one out of every fifty articles that I write, I forget that I am trying to inspire others with themes of health, wellness, and holistic living…..

Because, every now and then, I get lost in the story, and find myself inspiring myself……………..

"Sustainability through Art and culture

…is at the very heart of sustainable development."  says  Valmiki. "Arts and culture gives a people a sense of who we are, a sense of purpose, only through that, can we define our sustainable future."

"We are aspiring to make Kittitian hill a hub of creative arts for the Caribbean, and the world".

Sustainability through the Culinary experience

Valmiki also says, "The culinary culture of Kittitian Hills will embody the 'farm to table' experience."

"Our International chefs will craft innovative cuisine from fresh grown organic fruits and vegetables from our landscape and surrounding farms, and fresh catch from the sea."

Economic Sustainability

"In the development of Kittitian Hills, we want to maximize the economic benefits to the immediate community, and to St. Kitts. We mandated that Kittitian Hills should be built by native Kittitians."

"Our designs and construction methodology allow local contractors to construct all the buildings at Kittitian Hill",  Valmiki goes on to say.

"That means that the millions of dollars spent in construction of Kittitian Hill are flowing into the local community, and having a direct impact on the economy of St. Kitts."

Social Sustainability

He also says, "In creating Kittitian hills, we wanted to positively impact on the social fabric of St. Kitts and redefine resort development."

"World renowned architect Bill Bensley intended to maintain continuity with the islands rich architectural heritage."

"We are working with local business entrepreneurs, helping them identify opportunities, secure capital, and training, so they can take advantage of the numerous opportunities that Kittitian Hill will generate."

"In doing so, we contribute to the long term sustainability of the community."

Sustainability through the Ecological Environment

Valmiki makes the interesting point that, "The stewardship of a beautiful natural environment is an integral part of our sustainability. We planted at Kittitan Hill enough food producing plants to allow Kittitian Hill to become a net food producer."

"Kittitian Hill will be powered by renewable energy within 5 years. Electric cars will be available, to all the guest to have a 'guilt free' carbon neutral stay."

Luxury and Sustainability….the unique synergy

"By participating in our 'farm to table' dining experience, as well as the world’s only organic farmable golf course, edible landscapes, and our destination spa which has a native treatment drawn from native practices and flora…… allows you an opportunity to experience a unique synergy between luxury and sustainability", says Valmiki.

"We design not just buildings and landscapes, we designed Kittitian Hill to be an entire experience, unlike any other in the world."

"It is a place to belong….a community where belonging inherently brings purpose."

Belle Mont Farm

Located on Kittitian Hill, Belle Mont Farm is set among 400 acres of organic farmland and the lush forests at the foothills of Mount Liamuiga.

Guests will step onto their private veranda and take in views of the lush green tropical forest tumbling to the Caribbean Sea.

The spacious Farmhouses…..

…….are built around a grand central pavilion and professional kitchen. Their flexible design makes them ideal for families and small groups up to four couples, each accommodated in their own private Guesthouse.

Featuring a private 100-foot infinity-edge pool, the Farmhouses offer one of the most exclusives experiences among resorts in the Caribbean.

Belle Mont Farm is the first hotel to open on Kittitian Hill in December 2014.

Guests are encouraged to explore the farm, where a wide range of crops are grown, including passion fruit, pineapples, bananas, and mangoes, as well as vegetables, coffee, and cacao.

Winston ….The "Nurseryman" (Ya Mon' !!!)

Winston Lake is the supervisor of the plant nursery at Kittitian Hill. Coming from a family of farmers, he says he got started at 5 years old.

Winston says, "No amount of money can give me the pleasure of such an environment….Give me my outdoor West Indies any day!!! "

Winston has an amazing 64 varieties of mango, and over 15 varieties of banana and avocado, and much more!!! And he says, "That's only scratching the surface".

Winston says……"I hope I'm not being blasphemous but it is just 'a little' short of paradise. I think guest will be thrilled to find every morning, a fresh basket of fruit and vegetables for their room."

Winston say guests can always attribute it to St. Kittitians, and their hospitality.

[my note: Winston’s my new role model!!!]

Developer George Whittaker says ……..

"We want someone to leave Kittitian Hill feeling more fully alive and energized than they did when they arrived, and that is important to us. We want them to retain that feeling until they come back the next time"

….Shooooot, I'm energized just writing this article 🙂
