Men’s Health: Nutrients for Male Vitality and Well Being (Part 3)

1) Vitamin D
2) Lepidium meyenii (Maca)
3) Pomegranates

My boy Idris Elba (I've been a big fan since "The Wire") is gonna help me out with some of that understated, British Style "Machismo", in this third of a trilogy of articles on Nutrients for Male Vitality and well being.

Us "real men" don't like to get too graphic, we don't even speak in public bathrooms, but its important for health and wellness sake to mentioned I accidentally stumbled across the power of these nutrients when I healed my prostate naturally from what seemed to be a inflamed prostate, and afterwards, found myself "up periscope" every morning with those coveted, youthful morning erections (yawl know what I'm saying, so I'll leave it at that).

Have you seen those stupid new Viagra commercials?

…with the the sexy sensuous girl laying there talking sexy in front the clear blue water? First time I saw it I chucked and said …."Oh that's just perfect, pile on the pressure why don't you….."

I got so pissed off I had to write an article about these dumb ass Viagra commercials

Viagra and Cialis are no more near addressing this issue…..

……than they are to the other side of the universe. But, I kinda lucked out (or was "blessed out"), when I got my short, but scary prostate ailment last year, caused by of all things, a bad reaction to Tongkat, an exotic male enhancement herb, when I healed myself via whole foods and superfoods, my morning erections were noticeably there every morning, and I knew I was onto something

…..and I know those little pills ain't necessary!!!

Sex in the age of "disconnect" 🙁

Not to get on a "soapbox" but it seems to me, the proper functioning of male sexuality, erections and all that, is dependent upon a series of so called "connectivities", and it seems like most are missing in this supposedly modern age.

Disconnect of men as pertains to nutrition knowledge…..

…..for the male body to function properly, disconnect with the medical and drug companies, who just want to sell us a pill so solve problems and not look at underlying root of these issues, disconnect between men and women and the "esoteric energy exchanges" needed to make male-female intimacy work properly….but that's an article for another day

In all the chaos, we can at least take initiative to get ourselves back in balance with these nutrients …….

Vitamin D


Powerhouse Sources

** Wild Caught Alaskan Salmon (my preferred source, my article here)
** Vitamin D Supplements (Though I can't use them because they cause me me insomnia and restlessness)
** Sunlight
** Cod Liver Oil


Lesser sources

** Tuna and Swordfish (though both can be high in mercury),
** Sardines
** Eggs


…..are Vitamin D fortified fortified foods like cereal, milk, and cheese

Vitamin D for Prostate health and Sexual Vitality…double threat!

You don't really need me to confirm the importance the importance of Vitamin D for both prostate health and male sexual vitality. You could literally spend the next month researching this and still have volumes of scientific studies and health articles unread. My detailed Vitamin D article here.

Healthy vitamin D levels is probably one of the top two

……or three health goals one should undertake. If the quality Vitamin Supplements like Garden of Life Raw Code work for you, then fine, but I cannot use them (one of my friends swears by them though). I think it depends on your biochemistry, V-D supplements leave me restless, sleepless, and "out of sorts". Fortunately I eat Wild Caught Salmon consistently, as in almost every day.

Sunlight is a good source, but…..

……not feasible for most, especially in northern climates with cloudy winters, and for darker skinned people, who would have to be in the sun several hours of the day every day.

The Darkest people have the highest Vitamin D Levels…..

An interesting note is the African Massai people with very dark skin have some of the highest average Vitamin D levels of any people in the world, averaging V-D scores in the upper 40's, in spite of their dark skin, but in general, these cattle herders are in the sun all day.

I'm quite convinced that us African descendants, taken out of our natural geographical environment, and now living in North America, which often results in low vitamin D scores, is the root of many health issues of African Americans.

Lepidium meyenii (Maca)

Types of Maca:  Red, Black, and Yellow Maca
(They all look and taste the same in powdered form, but have slightly different nutrient structures, but all 3 have great health benefits)

Red Maca
….was shown in lab mice to aid in helping Shrink the prostate, so I would recommend
Red maca for men. I can't prove anything, but at age 53, I never have to get up at night to go to the bathroom, and it is rare for me to wake up in the morning without my "youthful" morning erections (though many superfoods have probably helped get me here)

Yellow maca
Most maca where no color is specified is yellow maca …..still a good product, but men should get the red for better results (or at least mix Yellow and red, or mix all three)

Black Maca seems to be hardest to find
I haven't put too much research into black maca, and although is was not shown to decrease prostate size in lab mice like red maca, it was shown to increase sperm count in some studies, so it seems to have its own "Male Vitality" properties

Maca, a gift from the "Male Vitality" gods……

I love this whole food plant called Maca, mostly sold in powder form which I add to my smoothies. It makes me feel vibrant and balanced, seems to help me sleep better, gives me energy, but smooth and natural, not "jerky and erratic" like caffeine.

The Inca warriors knew long before me, in that they consumed Maca before going into battle. Once again, your research will reveal endless documentation on this one, but even if research is not your thing, add a daily tablespoon of red maca to your smoothies or elsewhere in you diet, and see how it affects you.

Pomegranate is another "double threat"….

…in that pomegranate is known to be an aphrodisiac, along with endless scientific proof that it helps with prostate health, as well as positively affecting overall health. I guess that makes it a "triple threat", in reality, the benefits of this superfood is quite extensive.

For example, pomegranates have been shown in numerous studies to increase testosterone levels. As pertains to treating prostate prostate cancer, two studies have shown that pomegranate juice or supplements slowed the increase in PSA. You can do a little web research and verify all this……

Pomegranate and overall health

Pomegranate has anti-inflammatory effects that may protect against cancer and other chronic diseases.

Pomegranate has anti-angiogenic properties, meaning that pomegranate may help to prevent growing tumors from acquiring a blood supply, preventing those tumors from receiving the nutrients that would allow them to grow larger.

Pomegranate juice is stacked with antioxidants….

……which scavenge free radicals and prevent DNA damage that can lead to a number of serious health conditions.

The fruit juice contains soluble polyphenols, tannins, and anthocyanins which play a vital role in cancer cell death.

No magic bullets, but part of a "dream team"…

Meaning, you can't just eat a few pomegranates or an occasional Salmon Burger, while continuing to trash the body with unhealthy food and drink, and expect to regain your youthful male vitality. In essence, there has to be a personal revolution to a holistic lifestyle.

It seem hard initially, and perhaps it probably is, but eventually it becomes very easy. Let's take back our health, vitality, and well being!!!
