Nature’s Dynamic Duos: Honey and Cinnamon (amazing wellness and healing properties when combined!!!)
All over this blog, I speak of this mysterious "vibration" that I get when eating powerful whole foods, plants, and herbs. I REALLY get that so called vibration whenever I eat, or use on my skin, real raw honey combined with Ceylon Cinnamon.
I thought I uncovered something akin to the Secrets of the Pyramids. What and herbalist I have become!!! Should I guard this secret under lock and key, to bottle and sell it at my discretion? Is this the fast path to my beachfront Caribbean crib and 84 foot yacht?
Well Doug (me writing to myself), check yourself, ain't nothing new under the sun!!! The health and healing properties of honey and cinnamon have been known via Ayurvedic and ancient Chinese healing for thousands of years. Oh well, back to Plan A, making my cash the "E.F. Hutton way", but those anticipated tropical days will be full of Honey and Cinnamon for health and well being…….
This is one of those concepts where there is so much written about it, a rudimentary internet search will produce volume upon volumes about the exponential benefits of Real Raw Honey and Real Cinnamon. As a note, most commercial honey is fake, and most commercial cinnamon is equally bogus, but its pretty easy to get the "good stuff" into your regiment.
The one sentence version of Mother Nature's little story on this "dynamic duo", is that the essential oils of real cinnamon (real as in Ceylon Cinnamon, which is light brown in color) and enzymes from honey, which produce hydrogen peroxide, together create and amazing chemical reaction, and act as the ultimate anti-bacterial/anti-microbial agent. It even has been claimed that the combination will cure ANY disease.
I knew there was something special about these two nutritional powerhouses that I "discovered" for myself by accident. Here are a few ways I get them into my daily routine:
*Keep in mind that the light brown colored Ceylon Cinnamon has a "smooth and mellow" taste as opposed to the rust/dark brown colored, "brash but tasty in small quantities", common Cassia cinnamon, and you'll be surprised how easy it is to bring it into something like a workout water, or sprinkled on a meal.
*I use a pre-shave facial mask every morning to soften the beard consisting of Honey, Cinnamon, and Argan Oil
*I sprinkle a little Ceylon Cinnamon and some Manuka Honey into my smoothies.
*I add honey and cinnamon (and other stuff) to my workout electrolyte water, to keep me naturally hydrated (this stuff is simply awesome!!!!)
*If making something like Coconut Flour Drop Biscuits or Banana Bread, I will dip them, piping hot and fresh out of the oven, in a saucer of Honey, sprinkled with Ceylon Cinnamon, it is a true Sunday Morning "simple pleasure", a good vibration for my "me time".
*Since I put raw crushed garlic on my Wild Caught Alaskan Salmon, I will drizzle Manuka Honey on it as well to balance out the garlic flavor, and sprinkle a little Ceylon Cinnamon (Incredibly tasty!!!!)
*As a morning ritual, before eating anything, a little honey on a spoon with Ceylon Cinnamon get the digestive track rearing to go for another day of work.
Interesting that in Ayurvedic medicine, honey is known as 'Yogavahi', which means "the carrier of the healing values of the herbs to the cells and tissues". It is believed that when combined with another substance (like an herb or spice) in a formulation, the special quality of honey enhances the medicinal qualities of that formulation and helps them reach the deeper tissues in the body more effectively.
Once you get the quality version of these two products, which won't take any real effort, you can get this dynamic duo working for you pretty easily, and in no time it will be a natural part of your health and wellness routine……..

Cinnamon is also useful for balancing blood sugar, is it not?
I like to slather my roast chicken with a honey/cinnamon glaze, it makes the skin so nice & crispy. Yum.
We're lucky enough to have a local, organic honey producer here, so we use honey liberally, for everything. It even stops my husband's snoring, a dab inside the nostrils reduces swelling and irritation from air pollution, and fends off sinus infections as well.
WoW!! I didn’t know honey can work on snoring!!! But I should have guessed. If seems like it helps everything. A friend of mine spilled a scalding hot pot of water on the floor and it splashed on her shin , she thought she would have to go to the hospital. I told her to hold off, ran home to grab some honey, I put some on her shin and put a gauze on it, the next day she told me she was fine. Amazing Stuff!!! And yes one of the many uses for sugar is to balance blood sugar..
I was at the grocery store the other day and I stared at all the honey options for I kid you not, 20 minutes. I am so confused about what kind to get. The kind I have now is from Trader Joes, and It's called Trader Joes Organic Wild Collected Raw Honey. I love the flavor of it, but I just wanted your opinion on that brand. I would like to be using a honey that has all of the great qualites honey has to offer, so please let me know what you think! I would perfer not to order a honey online, so If you know any other honeys you trust that I can buy from a Whole foods or another grocery store in LA please share!! Thank you!
Hi, you actually made a good choice with Trader Joes, When I lived in Portland Oregon, there was a Trader Joes nearby and that was the only honey I bought. My favorite is Soliga Honey, but I don’t know if they are going out of business or what, because I can’t find them on the web anymore. I found one website with 8 jars left and bought all 8. Here in Seattle Waiting for my Soliga to arrive, I am buying a local honey. The issue with me and honey is I like the ones you can pour as opposed to the “peanut butter” type solids, and the bogus honeys (like Sue Bee) are always the liquid pourable ones also. Other advice is the super expensive honey over $20 are all quality, but they are not practical to spend that much for most people. The solid honey in the yellow label, Y.S. Organic Bee Farms at Whole Foods is a reliable not so expensive one also. In the end I would stick with the Trader Joes unless you want to dig a little deeper and find a higher quality honey for your skin, for acne or other skin problems or a facial mask. I found the more expensive ones treat your skin better, and good friend told me the over $20 honey healed his psoriasis. I mix honey, Ceylon Cinnamon, a little olive oil, and a little Argan oil together for a pre-shave facial mask. The best honey you are gonna see commercially is Manuka Honey and another in an Octagonal Jar called “Healing Honey”. If using honey for skin care and wanna go more expensive then spend the $20 plus bucks on the skin care honey and make it last and use a less expansive one like Trader Joes for eating. Hope that helps, if you wanna ask me about a specific brand, shoot me a message and I will try to look into it for you. Hope this message wasn’t as confusing as looking at the honey at the store:) ~stay healthy~
Hello Doug,
This is my first time visiting your website. I am so impressed with the information you are sharing. Thank you so much for all the time and dedication you put into informing people about "real" products and healthy living.
Well, I'm writing requesting your advice on how to clear up dark blemishes on an Afro American face.
Thank you,
Paulette
Hi Paulette,
Thanks for the comments about my blog.
I’m only speculating so far as what might work for dark spots, but it were me and I just wanted to try something, I would Try Manuka Honey, or Argan Oil. Make sure the Manuka is one of the UMF certified Manuka (they will always say UMF on the label in the Amazon description.
Good Luck!!!
Hi Doug,
Thanks for the advice. I will give this a try. Being African-American, those dark blemishes are hard to get rid of.
Hi Paulette,
Good luck let me know if anything works so i can share with my readers. Only mentioning the honey because my best friend had bad skin and he said that Manuka totally healed it, though he wasn’t a victim of dark pots as I remember.
Good Luck!!!
