Urban dwellers: Let’s go vertical! Life in the concrete jungle can easily compromise our essential connection to Mother Nature. Doug is giving us a simple, easy, space-saving, cost effective and beautiful way to reconnect with the Kingdom of Plants, which will provide important food for the senses as well as the body.  He has experimented with this by nurturing a few pots of edibles on his own small patio and received a great deal of valuable learning and enjoyment in the process. (See: The Eating Revolution / Sustainable Eating, Gardening and Living / The Garden of Eatin'. . .) Let’s all do what we can and the rewards will be priceless.

I couldn't agree more. Farmers markets are useful, but what is even more useful and affordable is growing your own organic food. If everyone had a garden we could reduce pollution from transporting food. We should all be practicing permaculture a type of gardening that harvests rainwater, where edible plants, and ornamentals  are grown that are beneficial to wildlife (birds and bees).
