“Garden Graffiti” (Part 1) … “Vines in a Cage” (a.k.a., “Move on Up” !!!) The Insignia Building, Seattle Washington

I was inspired to start a new series of blog articles when I walked past this building going up a block from me in Seattle, Washington.

I'm calling these articles "Garden Graffiti", I think you can see where I'm going with that.

(Below) Digital Graphic of the Insignia Building, due for completion later in 2015.

About the Insignia Building…….

With 700 units in its twin towers spanning a full block in Seattle, The Insignia boasts a 41st floor sky retreat and residents lounge, 7th floor green space with outdoor grilling and outdoor fireplace, Fitness atrium with yoga and Pilates studio, Electric car charging stations, and much, much more!!!

The Insignia in Seattle is aiming for LEED Silver certification. It features green roofs and water-efficient landscaping and plumbing fixtures. Up to 75 percent of construction waste is being recycled

The Insignia's "green space", not only adds to the aesthetic, but helps make building more eco-friendly, as green space reduces carbon footprint, helps with insulation, and so forth.

Vines in a Cage…..

…is what I call the innovative structure that will surround the lower levels of the Insignia building.

Vines will start at the base, and grow within the cage that is bolted to the outside of the building.

This allows the vines to grow and spread right up the side of the building, creating green walls, SLICK!!!.

I'm really into this "gardening thing" as of late and it is going to be fascinating to walk past this building everyday and watch how the vines grow.

I'll update the post with new photos, as the vines make their "move on up"…..

So interesting!  It would be nice to see more of "your" Seattle 🙂  Sounds like a city tailored for me (ha), but not gonna lie, the pending "big one" would makes me nervous… even from where I am.

Hey Mari!!!

Haven’t heard from you in a while 🙂

Yeah this whole west coast is supposed to break off and slide into the ocean one day right.

But yeah, Seattle is a cool town, I’ve only been out here for 2 years after 2 years in Portland Oregon , I’m originally from Chicago. Winters are much milder here (great for growing spinach 🙂  ) , and the people in the Great Northwest are a little more “eco-friendly” and easy going and engaging than my beloved Chicago.

But if you ever get up here, look me up, would be my excuse to finally go to the space needle 🙂
