Food for Thought: The Day I Forgot My Age (a.k.a., on the road to becoming Caleb)

Caleb was the Biblical character who gave praise to be 85 years old and still feel 40

"Behold, I am eighty-five years old today.  I am still as strong today as I was in the day Moses sent me [at age 40]; as my strength was then, so my strength is now, for war and for going out and coming in."

–Caleb (The Book of Joshua 14:10-11)

It occurred to me I have been telling people I am 50 years old, and since I rarely think about the numbers anymore……

…….in my mind, I have been truly believing I am 50 (or younger).

Until I did the calculation from my birthday in October, 1961, and the numbers don't lie, I realized I was about to turn 52.

For me, I interpreted this lapse of awareness to a good thing………

When you get into that biblical story of Caleb, you find that the secret to his agelessness and strength was his spiritual closeness with God.

It also says that his faith, and trust in God, gave him a fearlessness and confidence to go out and fight and defeat his enemies. Even as a child, I was fascinated with, and drawn to, this mysterious Biblical character.

I think I have a similar blessing, in that, however we see this "God-thing" (as I call it)….

that  I have been feeling for a couple of decades that we all get divine gifts, and I felt mine would be the gift of youthful vitality.

As I stepped through my 20's, 30's, and then 40's, it seemed to me that very little (from the physical point of view) actually changed.

______________________________________________________

Maybe a bad knee and a sore back here and there, a half grey beard that I keep clean shaven, but in general, I currently feel like the same person I was when I was 30.

I was fortunate to have a passion for research and study of health and healing herbs, foods, and such, and now it seems it all is paying dividends beyond measure, in that it seems like I will roll right into sixty, and be thinking 60 is nothing……

….like, I'll probably say… This is 60? How anti-climatic…feels like 37 to me.

If there is one thing that I've learned is that the the body will start to "become" what the mind thinks.

Even the Bible says , "As a man thinketh, so is he" -Proverbs 23:7

I think that I will be able, when I am 85, to make the same quote as Caleb did, which will be amazing, but totally do-able.

Currently, I can make the  quote below, that is equally amazing, but totally real and true.

"…behold, I am almost fifty two years old today.  I am still as strong today as I was when I was 30; as my strength was then, so my strength is now, for war, and more importantly, to appreciate my continued peace."
