Confessions of a Tongkat user: My experiences from using the natural herbal testosterone booster

IMPORTANT UPDATE 3/17/2014..I no longer use Tongkat and I no longer recommend it (it may be your "savior", or it may be your ultimate "pain in the ass", as it was mine). Although it is a natural herb, it simply doesn't  feel right with my biochemistry, I'm too agitated and sleepless and "out of sorts", even in small doses. In all fairness to Tongkat, this "agitation and sleeplessness" happens to me with several things I have tried, i.e. Vitamin D, Magnesium Supplements, Horny Goat Weed, and a couple of other things, so I know it is not just the Tongkat that causes this agitation.

I have learned more about people having different "Dosha" bodytypes and biochemistries, it seems it all just depends on your biochemistry. So I can't say what its effects will be on the next person, because everyone is different.

The good news for me is I got my "morning erections" back through dietary changes. I'm going back and forth about deleting this article, because I got a  prostate ailment caused by [I think] a bad reaction to Tongkat….VERY serious, and VERY scary.  But the end result of that scary incident was the healing diet to cure what I diagnosed as an inflamed prostate actually got my erections back. Tongkat is a natural herbal testosterone booster, used by both men and women only found in in Malaysia and the Indonesian Island of Sumatra. In the Far East, it is used for this purpose as well as many other healing purposes, known in the East as "The Tree that cures a hundred diseases". I'm always searching for that Fountain of Youth and loving the challenge of cheating father time.

I am on my third stent with Tongkat, after using it for brief periods of perhaps 3 months or so twice before, but failing to master this VERY POTENT herb.  Unfourtunately,  it screwed up by sleep habits. The results of those failed attempts, however, were so incredibly awesome, it convinced me that I should not scrap the project, but keep trying. Any man who can master Tongkat, or as I call it "The Gat" will (arguably) resolve 80% of the issues of his life. I think this third time is a charm……………….I got this!!!!

Penis size does not shrink from using Tongkat or any other herbal natural testosterone boosters. I have to make this my first point or the average guy will stop reading right here. Penis size is, except for I suppose the elite 5% of the "overly well endowed", who I suppose got inches to spare, is analgous to a man's pension plan or 401K, in that you don't want those assets to dissipate into thin air for no reason.

There is a big difference between Tongkat and artificial steroids, human growth hormones, and all the rest the athletes are continuously being caught taking, Lance Armstrong being the most recent one to bite the dust, damn………….he was my hero. With artificial steroids, HGH, or external testosterone boosts, once your body starts getting it from the outside, it stops producing it on the inside, henceforce the "shrinkage", refer back to Barry Bonds, girlfriend's testimony at his trial.

That's the reason most of us are really not impressed with those insanely huge bodybuilders, like one bodybuilder a female friend in Cleveland told me that she slept with, he was on artificial steroids, she said that he was like a "well wrapped Christmas present in a huge box, but when you open the package, nothing is inside"

Tongkat, a.k.a. "The Gat" works quite the the opposite. You see, it's not that men actually lose testosterone as the years go by. It doesn't just fall out of your body like a balding head. As men get older, testosterone gets "bound" in the bloodstream, so to speak, think of it as being handcuffed and shackled to a post.

Tongkat is a natural substance that unlocks the natural testosterone already in us, and that testosterone thus becomes "available", or "Free Testosterone" as it is called and measured when you take a testosterone test. We all know that testosterone helps us get muscles and facial hair and so forth, so conceptually, increased available testosterone, [supposedly] has a tendency to contribute to a fuller sized penis and testicles and so forth.

I can't confirm Tongat increases penis size, because in the past I was not on "The Gat" for long enough in my previous 2 stents on the herb, my last 2 stents were about 3 months each. Plus I'm not the "grab a ruler and measure my penis" kinda guy. At this point, my penis kinda is what it is, all guys know where we are on the map after so many decades, so I will settle for my "decent" or "acceptable" status. Decent in that I suppose its at neither end of the bell curve, that is, those elite 5% that could get a job as porn star sight unseen, I call them the "Lexington Steeles", or those unfortunate ones who women will not return you calls after seeing that little thing once, not matter how nice of a guy you are.

My ex girlfriend used to call my penis "beautiful" (I wonder what name she would have given to Lexington Steele), a couple of other girls I dated gave it names like "Thor" and "Caesar" back in the day, so I conclude I was at least OK (no one named it "inchworm" or "sardine"). But like any guy I'm sure, if I can tack a little more onto my 401K and pension plan , then cool. Penis size and money, you always want a little more.…………..boyz will be boyz.

Okay, enough about my penis, guys don't even conversate with each other in a public bathroom, so we only to talk so much about that stuff, I'm sure you get my point. Anyhoo, I did notice when I was on "The Gat", that Tongkat was making me really ripped, I was starting to get a true 6 pack (normally I have a partially formed 4-pack),  not bad for someone who was in his late forties, to the point when I was looking in the mirror saying "Damn Doug not looking bad brotha". I was putting on muscle as well, but with my more slim body type, it's always a struggle to get a body like "The Rock" or someone like that, but I ended up with a "Usain Bolt" type of look.

Now fellas it is so true, that I got some insanely rock hard erections on "The Gat". This is perhaps the real reason all of this even matters to men, right? Fine, even if Tongkat cures a hundred diseases, some studies suggest Tongkat even helps prevents cancer, that's all fine and dandy, but what we really want a are rock hard erections!!!! I think if I asked women, they probably want for us what we want also.

I found out on my first stent on "The Gat" about 5  years ago, right before I broke up with my ex, she wanted that "one last time before we break up sex", what I call that "one last time so I can have your baby because you ain't getting away from me Scott free sex", although I know how to use the Rhythm Method better than women, you cant play a playa' baby.

I must admit that incident with Tongkat 5 years or so ago I was in no less than rare sexual form, I was literally killing it (said with romantic affection). I don't measure my penis, but I do still do the other stupid guy thing of timing myself to see how long I can go. I went nonstop for 4 hours and 11 minutes, we had to take a soda break,  chatted for two hours, went at it again for about and hour and 10 minutes about 3am, crashed for a few hours, I woke her up and we went at it again in the morning.

Went to "Moonraker" restaurant in the South Loop in Chicago for Sunday Brunch, came home, and went at it again. She told me a funny joke "Why can't a man be a prostitute? Because a man can't pull and 8 hour shift!!!". But she complimented me on my 8 hour shift that weekend. I was cracking up at how she wanted an evening session, but the next day was a workday, and Tongkat screwed up my sleep so the night would be rough, although well worth the scientific experiment for all of mankind. Success with incredible sex, the theory is working. What and herbalist I am!!! But, Tongkat was interrupting my sleep. Project Cancelled 🙁

Speaking of erections, in a period where I was not on Tongkat, when I was recently living in Portland, Oregon, I had 2 experiences with women where I had natural erections literally all night and into the next morning. I will explain why it's relevant to the subject here. Woman #1 was no less than flawless in body, perfect azz, decent sized breast implants (not my thing but hey, they were there), however I later found she was stuck on herself and as with most fine women; extremely "self absorbed", self righteous, self centered, Self-ish, and self-bla bla-bla, and self-everything else…..That's the world we live in, but I don't even blame fine women, I blame men for giving them that power.

Now I know I ain't all that, but with some women, I can get up inside her mental fortress before she can get those guards up, and the first time me and Ms. Implants hung out it was no less that magic, great vibe great conversation….. before her real self came out. But that first night I had an erection through the whole date and all that night. I wasn't on Tongkat at the time. She sent me home with kisses and letting me feel her up but no sex, you know how that works guys, let the guy see the merchandise so we can proceed to work our ass off for it. Pleeze………

Lets call it what it really is. In essence its basically, "If you act the way I need you to act, then I'll give you your reward".

You know the real reason men are dogs? Is because women try to treat them like little puppy-dogs, trying to make them obedient to every command, hoping they'll turn into "faithful mutts", but the  puppies grow up to be wolves.

She picked the wrong guy for that however. It ain't the way I roll, but I can see why guys will smooze a woman "hit it" a  few times, and just dump her. Get the instant gratification without having to deal with that personality for any extended period of time. And the personality is partially developed from these same past experiences. And endless cycle.

As Bruce Lee called it, "One armed 'hassle' ". I simply refused to screw her (not saying I didn't regret that later), vagina don't control me, at least I'm in the 5% elite in that category, however unlike upper 5% with the huge penis, women don't care about my 5%. Best to pretend my 5% don't exist. To acknowlege our existence would dis-annull the fortress walls and suits of armour they have built up and defended their whole lives…..sigh

Bottom line is that in the natural state, I'm a healthy male who is totally capable for intense sexual arousal, but for me, it happens  only when I'm truly attracted to a woman through and through, not just the body, I'm into that "Booming body but super cool personality thang". And you all know how rare that is 🙁  That "Qi" (pronounced "Chee"), that "Life Force", that real divine energy that flows through a woman and to a man, when that energy shoots through me, it will get me rock hard, like a bolt of lightning hitting the top of the Eiffel Tower.

But the real world is not so perfect like that evening with the girl with the implants, and that's where Tongkat comes in, but it's not like Viagra in any way, especially since Viagra is man made, and plain and simple, not safe, but Tongkat is a natural herb that rebalances the body without you having to plan when you have sex and make sure you have it handy, Tongkat is more of a natural way to always stay ready and good to go. Or put another way, it just makes you "younger". I think the whole Viagra thing is a scam or perhaps an illusion, in that it doesn't address the real issues of a male physiology and youthful balance. Tongkat does!!!!!!.

Seattle, Washington is nothing but one big town of boots, legs, thighs, hips and ass. And rain . Well I guess I could say that about any city I am currently living in, now that I'm back on Tongkat. But this is the vibe on my third, and I think and hope permanent stent with Tongkat that has me seeing my surroundings the way I currently do. I think I have finally mastered "The Gat".

Luckily, unlike most dudes, I got natural self -control, thankfully due to my allergic reactions to "self absorbed" women. It's a blessing or a curse I suppose, since 90+ percent of the women I meet are self absorbed. Actually, for me it's been 100% (minus 2 really nice girls) of the perhaps 25-30 women I met since leaving Chicago 4 years ago.

Oh, make it three nice girls, there is this realtor in Seattle who showed me an apartment, simply beautiful woman, booming body, and is the most pleasant human being on the planet. What brothas call a "First Round, First Pick". Takes some kind of divine blessing to be that fine and not have it go to her head, but just radiate warmth and affection. I had to get her to tell me how she handled men on the street, since she has to get bugged all day. From Minnesota, that explains a lot. Can't mention her name because………….well I just can't.

Tongkat has given me a "male enlightenment" in Seattle. Tongkat gives a great sexual virility, but coupled with my coveted smooth laid back nature underneath, which allows me to casually and naturally be me. Strolling to Pikes Fish Market near my crib in Seattle, after one week on "The Gat", my head was on a swivel. It was like a hips, thighs and ass carnival, or perhaps some fun horror movie "Attack of the Killer Seattle Hip, Thighs, Legs, and Ass Sexual Vixen Zombies".

Jump on this Harley, let's go smoke some of that 'Bob Marley', sip some Bicardi, and let's go pull up at the after-party. I think we make a perfect couple but you think I'm trouble. Maybe that's the reason you gave me the wrong number. You got me thinking like, "maybe you the wrong woman". But if you think I'll be chasing a "chicken head", you on something"

I'm so not into hip-hop, but for whatever reason (I'm old school R&B  Soul til the end, mixed with a few talented White Boys , i.e. Sting, Phil Collins, etc.), but all three times I've been on "The Gat", the words to the above song by G-Unit come to my head whenever I walk down the street and girls are around. Not sure why Tongkat does that, with that specific song, but I like that edge it gives me that doesn't interfere with my smooth laid back nature.

Me, the perfect genetic specimen of a hybrid of the "Bad Boy" and the "Good Guy". Although, I'm  fiercely opposed to latch on and totally identify with either camp. Both camps are men's reactions to societal standards of how to present ourselves to women, just to get some ass. Screw that…………pun intended……………….

I haven't paid attention to my morning erections over the past few years, but I notice now how I wake up with my morning erections since I got back on Tongkat. I think I always had them my whole adult life, but now their like "up periscope" on a submarine. Reminds of the days back when I dubbed the term "EML", for "Early Morning Love". You know, like when you were 22 years old, could bone, bone , bone all night, and then wake up in the early morning and go again. 

This stent with with Tongkat is gonna work because I think I have mastered the issues with how Tongkat affects my sleep.  See my notes below. Sleeping like a rock, and waking up with a penis like a rock. And that's the way it should be.

IMPORTANT NOTES PURCHASING AND USING TONGKAT:  Do your homework before trying Tongkat. You run a 80-90% chance of buying a bogus product if you don't know what you are doing, and when nothing happens you will never try it again. More fake and bogus Tonkat is produced than almost any other herb in the world, mainly because it is so rare and expensive to produce. The company Sumatra Pasak Bumi is one of the oldest and most reliable companies, this is the one I purchase, but I'm not sure if you can order from them directly, I get mine from a guy that sells it over the web and that link is here and another site that sells the authentic Sumatra Pasak Bumi is here. Another product that supposedly has great results although I never tried it is SD-200, although SD:200 seems to only have a 1:200 strength capsule, and I RECOMMEND STARTING WITH 1:50 AND THEN MOVE  UP TO 1:100 or 1:200.

Although I haven't tried their product yet, another reliable company that sell Tongkat is Siam Natural. Just mentioning them because I use their prostate health Gac product, and they seem to be a very reliable company, in that I am comfortable buying various products in the future. They also have another "male enhancement" product that I will be trying later on in 2013, after I take a break from Tongkat and Vitamin D, it seems to be very promising product that is called Kwao Kraa Drang and the link is here. If I ever had any issue with this company or any other I recommend, I will swiftly retract my recommendation, but just letting my readers know the products I use or intend to use myself, and the company that seem trustworthy and reliable to me.

An EXTREMELY VALUABLE website where this guy seems to know everything about Tongkat, he exposes who sells authentic and who sells bogus can be found here. You can even email him and ask him if a certain brand of Tongkat is a legitimate product. His site also contains a list where you can see if a product is bogus or not. 

Make sure you follow the rules when taking tongkat, in that for every "x" number of days you are on Tongkat, you take half that many days off. For example, if you take it for 10 days straight, go off of it for 5 days, then go back on for 10 days. Best to take an entire month off after 2 or 3 month of this routine. Doesn't have to be 10 days, what ever works for you, like 6 days on and 3 days off and so forth.

I resolved my sleep issues with Tongkat by buying empty capsules and starting my 10 day cycle with 1/4 a capsule of the 1:50 strength Tongkat. (Normally, quality extract is in either 1:50, 1:100, or 1:200 strength formulas, which means it takes 50, 100, or 200 grams of raw product to make one gram of finished product) When taking the product, about an hour after swallowing a pill, no matter what the dosage, I will get a very mild, almost unnoticeable headache (I guess I can't call it a headache, because there is no real discomfort). It really doesn't bother me, and I perfer that I get it, since it lets me know the product is working and helps me monitor my dosage. I am very particular about what I put in my body, so if I felt any danger with this product, I would have trashed it long ago. I don't even like putting McDonalds burgers in my body.

If that very mild headache goes away in an hour or two, then my sleep should be OK. If that feeling in the head is there all day and  in the evening, Tongkat will probably wake me up, as happened when I started with the 1:200 strength Tongkat, way too much for me, I was taking 6 to 8 straight 1:200 capsules (they said that was the dosage the men in the Far East were taking),  and at that time the "headache" or "head pressure" was more noticeable, like a mild hangover, and it lasted all day and night, the Tongkat was definitely working, but I couldn't deal with the insomnia. In my second 10 day cycle, I took three 1/3 capsules and two 1/2 capsules of the 1:50 strength (the equivalent of 2 full capsules), and haven't felt anything in the head at all. This means I can bump up my dosage to the equlivalent of 3 capsules soon, whether I divide the capsules up, into I'll decide next time. It's obvious my body is adjusting, and I'm sure I be able to take the full capsules in a few weeks with no issues, without having to take 1/4,  1/3,  or 1/2 capsules throughout the day.

I buy empty capsules off Amazon so I can take partial capsules of the product. I simply open the Tongkat capsules and pour in the dosage I need. The website  where I buy my authentic Sumatra Pasak Bumi Tongkat, you can purchase 1:50 Tongkat powder as opposed to capsules, so the process is a little less tedious. I make capsules of other stuff like papaya enzymes, so filling capsules is no big deal to me.  I build up my dosage from 1/4 capsule a few times a day to 1/2 capsules, and by the end of the 10 days, I can take 2 full capsules of the 1:50 extract, and by that 10 day, although taking full capsules, there is no "very mild headache" at all. My current objective is to get to 4 full capsules of the 1:50 extract with no sleep issues. I am working my way up to the more powerful 1:200 extract, but everything in it's own time. Everybody's body chemistry is different, so you have to feel it out, your sleep may not be affected. However, As much as I liked the product the first two times I tried and failed because of insomnia, I regretted that I might not be able to use it, but tinkering and experimantation allows me to take advantage of it.

They say you shouldn't eat chocolate, garlic or broccoli when taking tonkgat because they blunt the effect of the chemical, and it seems like good advice, although sometimes I forget, but it seems those foods don't affect the product working for me, but as a rule, I don't eat them on my 10 days on Tongkat, but I do eat them on my 5 days off. They say fish can cause an allergic reaction when taking Tongkat, but I eat salmon 5 or 6 times a week every week, and have never had any issues. I guess it depends on many unknown issues like seafood allergies and so forth.

If you really wanted to monitor the product you could take a testosterone test before you start the product and then take another after 3 months or so on the product. Make sure it is the type of testosterone test that measures the "free testosterone" in the body. However, testosterome tests can be a little tricky, as in a test in the morning can have different results that a test in the evening, when I lived in Portland, there was place called "Any Lab Test Now", where you can go take any test that the doctor can give you like a cholesterol test, it may cost about $70, but you have to "deep dive" on the web to interpet your results. If you have a doctor that evens cares, which I think is rare, then they perhaps can take care of all this for you, but most doctors I have run across seem to be a little cluless about the things that concern me (vitamin D bloodtests being one example), not disrespect to doctors, but that has been my experience.

…..I think Tongkat is a great product that resolves those "male issues" in a natural way, but it is VERY POTENT and affects everyone's biochemistry differently, BUT IT"S SOMETHING THAT MUST BE MASTERED LIKE DRIVING ON ICE, but if you respect it and be patient, the results are amazing. TAKE YOUR TIME!!!! (advice I did not follow when I first started Tongkat, and paid the price with sleep loss). It might take 6 months or so to get the groove of this product.

UPDATE 1/23/2013, TWO AND A HALF MONTHS SINCE WRITING THIS ARTICLE. PROGRESSING NICELY, BACK ON THE 1:200 TONGKAT AS OPPOSED TO THE WEAKER STRENGTH 1:50 TONGKAT. DOING CYCLES OF 6 SAYS ON, 3 DAYS OFF. SLEEP IS BASICALLY NORMAL FOR ME, WITH ONE CAVIAT THAT I AM NOT WORKING 9 TO 5 AND THERE IS LESS PRESSURE IF I WAKE UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, SINCE MY SCHEDUELE IS NOT SO RIGID. WHEN I WAKE UP IN THE NIGHT I DROP BACK OFF TO SLEEP REAL QUICK, WHICH HAS ALWAYS BEEN HOW I SLEEP. WHEN I AM WORKING AGAIN AND SLEEPING ON A RIGID SCHEDUELE, WE'LL SEE THAT HAPPENS THEN. ANYONE WITH GENERAL SLEEP ISSUES, WHETHER ON TONGAT OF OFF MIGHT WANNA READ MY ARTICLE ON SLEEP CYCLES, WITHOUT THIS KNOWLEGE MY SLEEP WOULD BE A MESS. THE MOST INVALUABLE INFO ON SLEEP I HAVE EVER RUN ACROSS AND I SWEAR BY IT.

UPDATE 1/3/2013- I THINK I MIGHT HAVE A BREAKTHROUGH WITH THE SLEEP ISSUE THING TWO MONTHS AFTER WRITING THIS ARTICLE. I DON'T WANNA SAY TOO MUCH YET, BUT REST ASSURED I WILL KEEP YOU POSTED. I'M LEARNING MORE ABOUT EASTERN HERBALISM AND ALL HERBS AFFECT THE "YIN" AND "YANG". IT SEEMS TONGKAT MAY PUT YOU OUT OF BALANCE WITH TOO MUCH 'YANG", A BALANCE THAT MIGHT BE ABLE TO BE RESTORED BY REPLENISHING THE "YIN", I AM TAKING ANOTHER HERB (WHICH I HAVE BEEN TAKING OFF AND ON FOR 5 YEARS NOW), AND IT SEEMS TO STRENGHTEN THE 'YIN'. I DON'T WANNA MENTION WHAT IT IS, AT LEAST NOT JUST YET, SINCE I'M NOT A DOCTOR AND WOULDN'T WANNA GET SUED BECAUSE SOMEONE TOOK A COMBINATION OF HERBS AND KILLED THEMSELVES. UPDATE PART I 2/6/2013 AS I GOT BACK INTO THE 1:200 STRENGTH, HAVE PROVEN WHAT I ALREADY KNEW THAT TONGAT DOES EFFECT ERECTIONS. I'M NOT TECHNICALLY SEXUALLY ACTIVE NOW, ONLY "MESSING AROUND", BEING NEXT TO WOMEN HERE AND THERE. COMPARED TO A YEAR AGO, I WAS IN MY "DORMANCY PHASE", NO ACTION WITH WOMEN AT ALL, NO KISSING NO NOTHING. BUT IT'S GOOD FOR THE SOUL. ANYWAY LAST YEAR IN MY DORMANCY PHASE, WHEN I GOT TO TOUCH A WOMAN'S BOOBS ON A COUPLE OF OCCASIONS, THERE WAS NO NATURAL ERECTION OR PENILE MOVEMENT WHATSOEVER, WHICH CONCERNED ME BECAUSE I AM THE MOST SUPER FIT AND HEALTHY 50 YEAR OLD I KNOW. UPDATE PART II 2/6/2013 – BACK UP TO 2 OF THE 1:200 CAPSULES OF THE QUALITY SUMATRA PASAK BUNI  . AS I PROGRESSED THROUGH A FEW WEEKS OF MY 6 DAYS ON AND 3 DAYS OFF, IT SEEMED MY SLEEP WAS BEING INTERRUPTED AGAIN. NOW, IT SEEMS LIKE I CAN'T TAKE DOSADES IN A STRAIGHT LINEAR FASHION OVER TIME. I'M THINKING WHEN I GET TO A CERTAIN PLACE IN MY MONTH OVER MONTH CYCLE, TO EASE UP ON THE DOSAGES SO FAR AS AMOUNT AND NUMBER OF DAYS A WEEK. PREFACE TO FINAL UPDATES – even though there is some success with sleep, Tongkat still gets me too "wired" and my sleep is still being affected, as much as I though this experiment would be a success (and wanted it to be), in the end I threw in the towel…………….

FINAL UPDATE 3/1/2014 – You just have to know what you are doing with Tongkat. And I will always promote Vitamin D, as it is the most important nutrient any man should be taking. But in pill form, both Vitamin D and Tongkat don't "Feel Right" with my system. They keep me up at night, and give me mild headaches, and get me a little too "wired". My best friend and fellow health nut takes Vitamin D pills and loves them, so this has to be a chemistry thing for me. THE GOOD NEWS, is I got my morning erections back after a "bad reaction" that "might" have been caused by taking Tongkat right after Vitamin D, when I went started only raw foods (including some great superfoods like Black Sesame Seeds, Gac, Argan Oil, and Red Maca), foods plus Wild Caught Alaskan Salmon (Which is high in vitamin D).

 

FINAL UPDATE (PART II) 3/17/2014..I have decided to no longer use Tongkat. Although it is a natural herb, it simply doesn't work well and feel right with my biochemistry. The good news for me is I got my "morning erections" back through dietary changes. Although the dietary changes came after an brief prostate/bladder related illness with "possibly" might have been provoked by Tongkat. Read more here on this experience, and how I "accidentally" got my morning erections back through dietary changes only.

Naw, no hair loss, but in the end tongkat did not work with my body type which is why I stopped.

Messing up my sleep was the biggest issue, and I just felt wired and “out of sorts”, and I’m not a big fan of forcing myself to take something if it makes me feel worse, just to get the type of erections I want. But that being said, it was not just Tongkat in and of itself that caused this issue with my sleep and such, other things gave me the same negative symptoms, like when I took vitamin D supplements, or magnesium supplements, horny goat weed, they all kept me up and left me wired. Like I mentioned in my update to the article, I got my morning erections back once I changed my diet grain free, and all raw plus wild caught salmon, I have recently added organic eggs to it. Itill get morning erections 6 month later so I think I unlocked the secret for me….by accident. I’m sure I will do some cooked food in the future, a slice of Whole Foods Pizza here or there this summer, but I wanna see how long I get the grain free going.

…getting back to Tongkat, I wanted to delete the article, because I think the Tongkat gave me this inflamed prostate issue, although that could have been from a contaminated or tainted lot of the herb, or the fact I jumped into Tongkat the very next day after I got off vitamin D, which could have caused some reaction in the body, who the heck knows. Thank you for your swift feedback. Not long-winded at all. In fact, it's very inspiring and I'm very happy for you! I, on the other hand, have yet to find my ultimate remedy. I recently purchased TongKat Ali but after reading your article, I'm now bit anxious about taking it (blood in urine is nothing to mess with). In general, the issue with these natural herbs is the lack of evidence/studies around their long-term health effect and that is the risk that consumers are taking. Similar to your thinking, the last thing I want is to do damage to my body just to boost my libido. 
I read your piece on the dietary change (smoothie and the raw and no-grain diet) and was further inspired by it. Do you happen to have a comprehensive list of what one should eat vs. not eat?   
I really want my mojo back so I can live a good life. Any additional advice would be highly appreciated.

I wanted to make one point in repsponse to that word “Mojo” that you used…….

I think I lost my “mojo” a few years back, when I was 48-49, though I was extremely healthy, eating right for the most part, always exercising, but it seemed I could be in a situation when I was kissing on some girl or some other “compromising” situation, there was nothing going on in the crotch area. I was in one situation when one girl literally took off her clothes and wanted me to “go at it”, but I just didn’t have it. I kinda knew this is the puzzle Viagra and every one else is trying to address. As an aside, I really feel sorry for married men because the “pressure to perform” must be enormous.

Anyhooz, over these past 5 months, I will find myself merely talking to some cute girl at the health club or wherever, and just looking at her and talking and feeling her “vibe” gets that “inflatable raft” started in my crotch, if you know what I mean. I call it the “mind-crotch” connection!!!! You know, like when that happen so easily in our late teens and twenties, when just thinking about a girl got you erect. When I lost my “mojo” there was nothing going on down there, I think the latest term is a “flat tire”. So for me, I know I’m back in the zone, at least to some degree. Unfourtunately, I’m not the most “active” dude sexually, but that’s ok, because that comes around when it comes around, and I know I won’t have all this pressure to “jump-start” my body in somekind of fake way, it will be happening from natural energy. But I’m sure it will be a fun scientific experiment at that level……nonetheless, I got real lucky to have this be the end result of my experience, that’s why I ramble on about it because it seems to be a standard thing guys go through, but it doesn’t have to happen………………

I’m kinda lucky because I can eat the same thing day in and day out, adn thus I can zero in easily in on what works for me, and after 9 straight mornings of erections last Christmas, after the “incident” that happend a month prior over Thanksgiving (and inflamed prostate was my “self diagnosis”), which I wrote about in the “Heal Thyself” article, I ate EXACTLY the same things in early 2014, cause I had to see what was up with this accidental rejuvination, if it was a fluke or not. There is no way I would have guessed I could accomplish it from food and superfoods only, but the “health Gods” (as well as Venus the Goddess of Love), smiled upon me

That being said here is what I have been eating, it has been exactly the same for 5+ months, deviations listed below…………

Breakfast:
Smoothie…Liquid is Numi Gunpowder Green tea and/or Taste Nirvana Coconut water, Nutiva Hemp protein, a sprinkle of Ginger, Turmeric, and Ceylon Cinnamon(as opposed to more common rust colored Cassia Cinnamon). Few slices of cucumber and about 1/2 to 1/3 sweet bell pepper, shredded broccoli slaw which is basically broccoli stems, a little baby spinach every now and then but not often. The Superfoods I mention in the “Heal Thyself” Article, Gac Powder, Cacao Nibs, Red Maca, Source Naturals Yaeyama Chlorella, Jing Herbs Reshi Mushroom Spores powder, Black Sesame Seeds, A little Culinary Argan Oil (taste great!!), Frontier Herbs Freeze Dried Cranberry Powder, pumpkin seeds, A Tablespoon each of Genesis Today Total Goji 100 juice, Genesis Today Goji Mangosteen Juice, and Genesis Today Sea Buckthorn. Added Frozen Fruit to the smoothie (diced banana, strawberries, black raspberries, apple cores I saved, sometimes frozen diced mango). the frozen fruits are more for a sweeter taste, and to give the smoothie a berry color (I can’t get into those “muddy green” smoothies)

Mid-Morning/early Lunch @11:00am on workdays…..not so large portion of Wild caught alaskan salmon, with a little culinary Argan Oil, with some shredded broccoli slaw (get the slaw bagged from trader Joe’s)….last 1.5 months I have replaced the Salmon for this meal with 3 (or 4) Whole Foods Pasture Raised Eggs scrambled in Unrefined Coconut Oil

Late Afternoon meal @ 4:00pm Salmon with a little Culinary Argan Oil with some Broccoli Slaw

Post Workout @7-8:30pm Post workout salad with spinach, sweet bell peppers, cucumbers, 1 garlic clove, pumpkin seeds, dressing from 2/3 olive oil aend 1/3 apple cider or coconut vinegar (I thought this would be a problem because I love carbs after working out, but with the Oil and the pumpking seeds, it works for me, I do eat a banana or apple immediately after the workout to get some kind of carb fix)

Late night: Another portion of Salmon, with a little culinary argan oil, salmon size depends on how hungry I was after workout.

Throughout the day: Cashews, when I feel a little between meal hunger coming on (sometimes fruit, but when I cut the grains out, all I could compensate for no grains to feel full was to eat fruit, and I think I was taking in too much sugar, albeit natural fruit sugars, so cashews is my intraday snack)

Weekends: same stuff but 4 small meals 1)smoothie 2) four or five Whole Foods Pasture raised eggs scrambled in coconut oil (used to have oatmeal and toast with eggs on weekends, but it “seems” cutting out those grains played a big part in getting that “mojo” back as you call it) 3) salad mentioned above 4)piecce of Wild Caught Salmon late night

Other “Good Stuff: I take in all the time. Numi Gunpowder Green Tea (I’m kinda addicted to it and never though I could get into tea), Pink Himalayan Salt, Coconut Oil which I fry the eggs, sometime a little in the smoothie, and I cook the Salmon on the stovetop in a little coconut oil

Deviations: 11:00am early lunch, as mentioned above, I replaced Salmon with Whole Foods Pasture raised eggs scrambled in coconut Oil, for perhaps the last 1.5 months of the last 5 months (important note that be it just where I was timewise after 4 months, or the eggs themselves, it seemed like my erections got even more frequent after I brought the eggs back into my diet, as in right after I brought the eggs back into my diet, it seemd like a further “natural jumpstart” to my libido), could be coincide, could not………had some king crab legs a couple of times over the past 5 months (dipped in Argan Oil AMAZING!!), but no other real deviations. I suppose this summer I will get back into chicken, maybe a few grains like an occasional slice of Whole Foods pizza, there will inevitably be a barbecue where I have bread for a char broiled polish or whatever, but I don’t think that is gonna matter, since I am loving this “new me” and I know for sure what works for me, I’m gonna be doing this most of the time forever, when I deviate, it will be with real food made healthy. Remember that salmon is on of the few practial sources of natural vitamin D, and I’m lucky to love it.

I think after all that typing, I misread you message, you were asking what you should or should not eat. All I know for sure is my body tells me what I am currently eating is what I SHOULD eat. I was never up into this whole grain free, or Paleo, or whatever thing, but I don’t thik people should be eating all those grains. I don’t think people should eat Canola, or commercialy processed eggs, chicken and beef, I think they should all be pasture raised animal protein like in centuries past. NO GMO foods, no processed foods, no fast foods, no soda. LikeI said before , my strategy is a couple of char broiled Polish sausages at a picnic won’t matter, but I don’t think I should be getting one every day for lunch at work.

In addition to a low dose of Tongkat ali you should have tried to take cortisol lowering herbs such as lactium, relora, holy basil, sensoril ashwaghanda, oregano standerdized for rosemarinic acid. Cortisol is the min reason why you can't sleep at night. Tongkat ali increases pregnalone and 17OH pregnalone conversion by increasing cyp17 enzyme expression. Keep your cortisol low and your sleep should be fine. Also tongkat ali increases thyroid hormones which can increase metabolism in the body and keep you up. I feel you should have just stuck to a low dose and a cortisol lowering herb.

Thanks for the advice but I think I’m done with tongkat. Like I said in the post I really don’t need it, because I got my erections back naturally. But I do wanna post your comment for anyone reading. I think for me, the issue is beyone Tongkat, because I get teh same “our of sorts” feeling when I take Magnesium, or Vitamin D, and a couple of other things. I remember once whne I was experimenting with Tongkat after a long break, I took the smallest amount imaginable, like opening up a capsule, and putting a little bit of powder on my fingertip, and I was still up all night. So for me it wasn’t about low dosages ……………….

Since I’m so “shell shocked” from my experience with Tongkat, and the fact that a year an a half later my nutritional regiment has got me back to where I want to be as pertains to my male vitality, I’m basically done with Tongkat. I went back and forth over deleting this article because I wouldn’t want to be the cause of anyone going through that ailment that I got that I’m certain was caused by Tongkat. Also, as mentioned in the article, there are so many things like Tongkat, Vitamin D supplements, Magnesium Supplements, Horny Goat Weed, and a couple of others that get me so wired and sleepless, I don’t want to try anything else in that arena, because my formula works for me now as is.

Hi Mike, your blog is very interesting but I've found that tongkat ali is not meant to be a long-term drug. It's meant to be used for a short period of time (couple of weeks or less). Like with all herbs, though benefits are widely known, we have no way of really knowing the whole story of what's going on inside.

All of those supposed "super-foods" are just a trend from this times we are living where we all want to be super-heroes, but in reality there's nothing like just plainly eating healthy and doing a good amount of excercise.

Also I'd never take Maca for a long time either. Like all foods that are dense on some micronutrients (iodine in this case) I'd not take maca for more than a week. I tell you even more… Maca is not meant to be eaten raw, but rather using into cooking since it's not easily disgested and may cause damage to the lining of our guts in a long term.

Finally, I'd like to point out that I'd never mix two herbs like Maca Root and Tonkgkat Ali on the same time period, since they both have the power of balancing hormones but we have no way of knowing how they interact one with each other. I'd just take one at a time.

If you read the very first paragraph of the article it says in bold red letters that I don’t take Tongkat anymore and no longer recommend it……..

The article merely chronicles my experiences, and I also say in the first paragraph that I have gone back and forth about deleting the article. I also say in that first paragraph that I got my erections back via natural foods, no herbs, no supplements.

I love maca and take it with frequent breaks, as in the two month break I am off of it right now. To determine what is the right way to consume it, I think we only need to research how it was consumed historically. I’m always interested in more info, so post a few links on where you are getting your information on Maca..

Hey John,

Like said in the article, Tongkat totally screwed me up, I think I fell victim to the concept that I “wanted” it be the holy grail of natural cures. But I had a bad reaction, I think it was because I came right off Vitamin D supplementation and jumped into Tongkat. Probably something similar to what you mentioned about Maca and Tongkat together. I wrote about that scary experience in what I call my “Heal Thyself” Article.

The blessing from the experience is that I go to the resolution of getting my vitality back in what I think is the right way, via real foods, and I think the grain free really contributed.

I am now against exotic supplements an herbs for my own personal male vitality. Every man has to approach it in his own way. I’m now actually too scared now to try anything exotic like Tongkat anymore. The headaches from Vitamin D and Tongkat were telling they were not right for my body type anyway.

So far as Maca, I’d love to read more about it, I actually love Maca, but I do agree one has to take it in the context of how it is designed to be taken into the body.

The issue with my Tongkat article is that I don’t want anyone getting that bad reaction that I got (what I diagnosed as an inflamed prostate), and the root cause being reading my article without digging into the details. The reason I so far choose not to delete is because if someone gets that bad reaction, maybe they can find how I resolved it in a google search. Personally, I think people are not reading my disclaimer on how I no longer recommend it, because when I monitor my site, I can see many people go to the links I posted that sell Tongkat.

I don’t want to delete, my blog has to be the right, the wrong, the good, the bad, the ugly, the brilliant, the bonehead, of all my wellness journey. I have at least 10 updates to articles where I no longer recommend something, how I got fooled by a bogus product, that is the reality of my experience, and I want to log all of it, and not come off as a Guru. I’m just a dude trying to stay healthy…living and learning…………

I hope I get something out of your maca link because I talk a lot about it on my site and if applicable, I’ll update my articles with new info………………

you will find that prostate was enlarged on rats on which tongkat was used!!

That study should be on a very big disclaimer on all Tongkat products!

Maybe you should put a disclaimer in large red fonts at the beginning of this post including the link to the study.

Good to hear about the morning woods!! I'm trying to recover hard erections myself. Today I got a morning one, but wasn't hard. I'm starting to think that one of my 2 surgeries I had damaged my equipment (I had surgery for disc herniation and another one for varicocele).
I'll have to go to see a urologist to see if he may help me as well.

But I am concerned with my brothers who have already had to have their prostate issues evaluated by an MD. You know the result. The blue, yellow, and purple pill offer a Paradise I have no plans to visit. I have been of Tongkat for three days now and still cannot sleep through the night. I only took two weeks worth of the product before stopping with the normal on/off cycles. How long did it take until you sleept through the night after you discontinued use? thanks.

Hey BP,

I know my article was very long-winded and detailed, but I NEVER was truly able to get a good nights sleep with Tongkat.

Looking back on it, it was a horrible time, so far as sleep and restlessness was concerned. I remember once when I was off Tongkat for months, I opened one Tongkat capsule, put a little on my finger tip, so little there was barely any there, then put that little bit of Tongkat dust on my tongue, and i was up all night.

I simply don’t recommend Tongkat anymore . I don’t think you would ever resolve your sleep issues, thou you might make some sleep progress and improvements like I did. In teh end I lost that game.

So I would advise you to forget Tongkat……..

Thanks, Doug, for the response. I don't plan on taking Tongkat anymore. I'm just wondering how long it will take until I resume normal sleep after I stop taking Tongkat. I've been off three days now and am still struggling to sleep well. Do you recall how long it took you to resume normal sleep habits?

Hey BP,

Just be patient, as I remember, it took a couple of weeks for my natural “Bio-Rythyms” to get back in sync, although it was like a progressive thing. Perhaps a month after I stopped, I was back to sleeping like a rock, I doubt if it took me more that 2 months to be totally back in sync.  So you may have to “gut it out” for a week or two, but maybe someone like me telling you my experiences might help you relax a little more, knowing that drama will eventually be over.

So if you are wired for another week or two, don’t worry about it. You are going through the same hell i went through, so I feel you bro. As I mentioned somewhere in the article, that phenomenon happened to me with Magnesium Pills, and Vitamin D as well. Also, as i mentioned in the article, people have different “Dosha” characteristics of the body, meaning some things affect certain body types and not others, so it may keep one person up at night and not another.

People like you are the reason I haven’t deleted that article, because I hate tongkat, no longer recommend it, but I said I’d better leave the article up in case people have those crazy problems.

And, remember, I woke up erect this morning (sorry if TMI), just from a diet of natural foods (which I learned about when naturally treating my inflamed prostate caused by my bad reaction to Tongkat)

I threw away my Tongkat bottle this morning. This is my fifth day and fourth night not using Tongkat and am still struggling with sleeping through the night. Falling asleep is no problem, but staying asleep is another story. The first few days I would wake up at 1:30 am despite what time I fell asleep. Now, a couple days later, I am waking up at 4 am and still unable to fall back asleep. Is this what you mean my sleep returning progressively? A little at a time? This is also with the help of melatonin as well. I'm lucky to get 5 hours of sleep. This stuff must have been potent because I only took two one week cycles. Your note is reassuring. Thank you! I was really worried my sleep habits were permanently altered. Never again will I take Tongkat. Hope I can get 7 hrs of sleep soon, but I have a feeling it may be another week. Do you know why this stuff causes insomnia? I learned that cocoa lessens its effects so I've been eating more dark chocolate, 85 percent. Not sure of that helps. I restarted drinking beet juice as well to clean my system. I've taken lots of different herbs and nothing has negatively impacted me like this before, even with a small dose.

It was the same with me, I dropped off to sleep but woke up in the middle of the night.

I know you love your sleep but you have to give it more time (sorry if that sounds like a generic cliche). But no, your sleep is not permanently screwed up.

So far as herbs that help and all that, the whole core of my article was the journey of trying different things to help with my sleep, and I lost that game in the end.

Hi Paul,

As I emphatically stress at the top of the article, I no longer use Tongkat, will never use it again, and advise men to stay from it. However that is no guarantee the next man’s experience will be as horrible as mine.

As I tried to stress in that article, Tongat was a pure “horror show” experience for me, and I will never use it again. Messed up my sleep, cause me an inflamed prostate (literally the scariest health issue of my life, see the link below) , it wast a mess. However like I said, the cure to the inflamed prostate, natural foods, still works as my solution to erections, and I still consistently get morning erections, and though I’m not very sexually active (at the moment, things change though), I resolved the whole issue naturally without any so called “exotic herbs”

I can say that Source Natural in general makes quality products, I still use their chlorella. I’ve tried many other NOW products, and I’m not a big fan of them, they seem not to have the highest quality in general.

So be careful with that Tongkat, if you find yourself not able to sleep and mild headaches, I’d trash it at take the natural approach.

The foods I use to get my erections back naturally I listed in the “Heal Thyself” article, when I documented the crazy fiasco with Tongat, but 3 years later, I’m still “up periscope” every morning, except on some work days when my body seems to get thrown off when my sleep is interrupted.

Thai wasn’t my issue, I exercise intensely and consistently. It as no less than my body’s reaction to the herb. But as I said in the article, for some strange reason, I get the same reaction to Horny Goat Weed, and Vitamin D tablets, and a few other things.

I don’t recommend Tongkat anymore, but everyone mas to make his own decision, but I think this is a dangerous herb that should be avoided.
