The 110 year old’s 5 foods for a long healthy life!!!!

"Eat properly and get your rest," recommends Bernando LaPallo. Words to live by considering the Mesa resident was born in Brazil in 1901 and has lived to be 110 years old. "They had no automobiles, no airplanes I saw them all come about," remembered LaPallo.

LaPallo claims he's never been sick a day in his life. He walks every morning and eats mostly organic fruits and veggies. "People ask me what do you do to stay so young," LaPallo explained. "I say, 'Well you've heard the old saying, you are what you eat.'" So what's LaPallo's secret?

2)  honey

3)  cinnamon

4)  chocolate/cacao

5)  olive oil

"Use olive oil on your skin," LaPallo said. "Rub your feet rub your arms you'll never rust." Healthy habits LaPallo picked up from his father, a doctor, who lived to be 98. "He told me not to eat ordinary red meat," expressed LaPallo. "He said lamb is okay but red meat, stay away from it.

Hot dogs, french fries and all those things don't eat it." LaPallo keeps his brain sharp by being a voracious reader, solving crossword puzzles and playing checkers. "I can remember things my father told me when I was 8 years old," LaPallo recalled. A father who showed his son how to have a rich life worth living. "And he taught me how to live, how to eat and to have faith in God and he would take care of me," smiled LaPallo. "And so far it has happened."

p.s.,  I also heard him say in another interview something to the effect of "If you take care of your colon, every other body part will be able to do it's job"

A quick note from me, the blogwriter: I noticed, in the video, he had a bottle of ketchup on his kitchen counter. Ketchup is notoriously unhealthy, because of the high fructose corn syrup and other sweeteners.  So, to me, (assuming it was his ketchup) that implies that we may end up with a few bad things in our good diet, and still end up happy and healthy for an extended period of time…..Good news in that it's not like if we slip up in one or two things, we will keel over and die, just food for thought 🙂

I was so enthused that I had determined a few years back to get the same foods into my diet consistently , plus several others. I was good to hear that he said “a little lamb is OK” because I still love “meat as a treat”.

He is just saying these are his top 5, who knows if butter is in his top 20 or whatever. I think your or I or the next person might have butter on their list our 110th birthday. Salmon will be the “big boy” on my list. And like you I eat his 5 consistently, may miss the garlic here or there, but I learned to crush garlic and put it on salmon and drizzle honey on the salmon to balance out the taste.

I've heard of Bernando previously and found him very inspiring.  I discovered him when I was on a raw food diet and they were saying that a lot of the foods he eats is raw such as smoothies and fruit salads.  I think he puts garlic in his fruit salad too!  I think a little bit of not so good foods won't do so much harm as long as the bulk of your diet is healthy and unprocessed.

Hi, I love the name “GreenThickies”. I agree in that I read that a little bit of bad food will teach the body to rid itself of toxins. I try not to telly anyone that one though, because they might use it as an excuse to eat bad.

I consume all (5) except the chocolate regularly.  For chocolate, it's kind of like coffee, just don't have an affinity for it, don't dislike it, just not something I regularly indulge in.  Good list of my faves though.

I’m sure you’ll still live long 🙂 There are probably 20-30 foods that will get a person to that level, most of us will have out own top 5 or 6. All those just happen to be regulars of mine although garlic is a newbie for me consistently. I just crush it and put it on pizza and salmon, and drizzle honey to smooth out the flavor.
